As a working astronomer for decades, I learned different ways of observing the universe, noticing differences, unexpectancies — but as astrologers learned to their peril, never meddle in life on earth.

When Cassini Nazir and I started the ArtSciLab at UTDallas, I had no idea that I had to become a professional meddler, and how much as an astronomer I had to learn. Training as a Designer helped some: thank you Mauricio Meijia and many others

10 Birthday Party; You are invited to attend April 16 2022, hybrid in Dallas.

We are about to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our ArtSciLab. We have collaborated with more than 100 people, and bioluminescent bacteria- check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-pmmKRMT9w

Thanks to a group ( detailed at the end of this post) initiated by Jeremiah J Gassensmith we learned how to know when the bacteria were hungry and needed feeding

Now with Katryn Evans, our co-director, we are meddling in a variety of ways.

a) DATAS the Data Analytics Team that crosses the Arts and Sciences, in collaboration with Judd Bradbury Kirtan Pathak and many others learned from Tina Qin that you must use metaphor theory to analyse all data. Using chinese metaphors you are more likely to catch chinese metaphors, than if you use American or Sicilian ones. Qin oversees the fraud detection unit at a bank. Talk about meddling using artscience methods.

And yes the mathematics of complex networks is helpful in calming the 1000 Brains each of us have.

Thanks Hunter Newborne, Chris Lee, Venky and others.

b) Through EXPUCU ( Experimental Publishing and Curating) we are now venturing in the Metaverse. Look out for our 30 manifestos for the metaverse, in collaboration with sitting Texas Judge John Marshall. Our Creative Disturbances podcasts we are reaching others in 16 human languages. Podcasts for penguins and starlings next.

c) Through Curriculum Development across the Arts,Sciences and Humanities (CDASH) and ABLB ( Arts Based Learning for Business) Paul Nichols in our Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Kathryn Evans are rattling the cages of the business world (meddling) and will soon be announcing an amazing Big Ideas prize for initiatives in the real world ( start-ups etc etc). Thank you Dean Roehmer for taking the lead.

Final Thought; A provocation

If you take my, cassini/kathryn salaries for 10 years, plus the Edith O Donnell Endowment (thanks Edith and Peter) thats a few million dollars we have spent….

Would this have better been invested in Effective Altruism ? Thanks to Venkatesh Subramayan the ArtSciLab is sponsoring a student group https://www.effectivealtruism.org/ to convert the artscilab light meddling into deep meddling.
